Why Powder Highlights Facial Hair After 50 (And What to Do About It)

One of the most common things I hear from women over 50 is that their powder seems to make things worse, not better.

Here's what's actually happening.

Powder clings to fine facial hair. It adds bulk and texture right where you don't want it, and instead of blending hair away, it draws the eye straight to it. Most women I work with are already managing facial hair through dermaplaning, waxing, or threading, and then their powder quietly undoes it.

What I suggest instead:

  • Swap powder foundation for a cream or liquid formula. These sit on skin, not on hair.

  • Be strategic about where you apply powder. Avoid areas where hair is more visible.

  • Finish with a hydrating setting spray. It adds moisture back into the product and helps everything lie flat against the skin.

The two setting sprays I reach for most with my mature clients are Charlotte Tilbury Airbrush Flawless Setting Spray and MAC Fix+. 👉 ShopMy Recommendations

Facial hair after 50 is incredibly common. Hormonal shifts mean many women notice more of it, often in new places. Once you know powder is the culprit, the fix is usually simpler than you'd expect.

If you'd like to work through this on your own face, I offer one-on-one makeup lessons. 👉 Booking link
